About Counselling

Making the decision to seek counselling can be an anxiety provoking and difficult task. My website aims to assist you through this process making it as straight forward as possible.

Counselling empowers you to take control of your thoughts, feelings and behaviour by promoting self-reflection.  I am welcoming and friendly and strive to create a safe, non-judgemental and confidential therapeutic holding space that provides you with the opportunity to gain a deeper insight and understanding of yourself and your difficulties.  Counselling focusses on your future and moving past any blocks that prevent you from living your life how you wish.

Counselling can assist in facilitating change in many different ways, with an overall aim of reducing emotional distress and developing healthy coping mechanisms leading to a more fulfilling future.  We will work at your pace with the material you bring.  Together we will explore your present thoughts, feelings and behaviour as well as your past experiences.  All of these combined impact how you relate to others and situations in the present day.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), therefore my practice complies with their ethical and professional framework.

My approach is flexible, I am therefore able to tailor your sessions to your individual needs.

How counselling is different from talking to friends or family

People closest to you can feel the need to rescue you from your discomfort, providing you with what you ‘should’ or ‘ought’ to do.  This is the main way in which counselling differs as I will not tell you what to do.  We will work collaboratively to facilitate the exploration of the difficulties you are facing.  Nobody knows what you are thinking or feeling better than you.  For this reason, you will be in control of your journey and we will work at your pace.  I will sit with you through your emotions, allowing you the space to be able to feel and process them.  You will not be judged on your feelings or behaviour.  My role is to assist you in expanding your awareness and better understanding yourself, with an overall aim of finding your own unique path through your difficulties.
